She said: "Hanging a clear bag of water outside open doors and un-screened windows keeps the flies out. Because of their faceted eyes, they see the light refracting through a hundred bags of water and turn the other way."
And this is why there are no flies to be found in the entire principality of Germany.
As we don't have a screen door for our stunning one-bedroom flat, I might have to give this a go! If any flies make it inside, though, I'll hold Germany responsible.
